Ledger Investigates Suspected Wallet Tampering Amid Crypto Theft Reports

Ledger, a manufacturer of cryptocurrency hardware wallets, is investigating multiple reports that user devices have been tampered with, resulting in the theft of digital assets. The suspected cause involves compromised hardware potentially supplied through a reseller.

Photos and videos circulating on social media platforms X and Threads appear to show a small circuit board installed beneath the wallet's screen. Reports suggest this implant can intercept all displayed information, including the seed phrase shown during initial setup. The implant then transmits this data to an attacker via an embedded SIM card, enabling unauthorized fund transfers.

Ledger has requested that reseller CryptoBillis halt all wallet sales while the investigation proceeds. The company has initiated an internal review to ascertain the validity and scope of these allegations.

This incident raises concerns about the security of cryptocurrency storage and the integrity of hardware wallets, as attackers develop new methods to compromise user accounts.
