Legora CEO: UK stock options make London expansion 'no-brainer'

Max Junestrand, founder and CEO of Swedish legaltech company Legora, has stated that the UK's approach to employee stock options makes expanding in London a "no-brainer" for the scale-up. Junestrand described Sweden's system as "almost impossible" for scaling businesses across Europe.

"It (the UK system) allows us to offer practical employee options, whereas in Sweden it is much more complicated," Junestrand said. He explained that in the UK, employee stock options are taxed upon exercise, which facilitates company growth and employee retention.

Junestrand contends that Sweden's tax framework hinders scalability by making the provision and administration of employee stock options complex and costly. He has previously voiced concerns that Sweden's current tax policies undermine the global competitiveness of tech companies.

Founded in 2019, Legora is a Swedish technology firm providing legal services. The company has secured significant funding and aims for international growth, with Junestrand's remarks highlighting the impact of tax policies on corporate location decisions and expansion strategies.
