Leidos expands U.S. cruise missile production capacity

Leidos is coordinating with a network of U.S. suppliers to increase production of the Low-Cost Containerized Missile (LCCM) and the AGM-190A Havoc Spear cruise missile. The move follows a May 2026 framework agreement with the Department of War for an initial order of 3,000 LCCM weapons aimed at bolstering national long-range strike capabilities.

Manufacturing operations are centered in Huntsville, Alabama, and McEwen, Tennessee, supported by suppliers across 14 states. Initial deliveries of the AGM-190A are currently reaching the Air Force Special Operations Command, while the LCCM program is slated for test deliveries in 2027, with full-rate production anticipated in 2028 and 2029.

Cindy Gruensfelder, President of Leidos Defense, stated that the company is prioritizing investment in infrastructure and human capital to meet production deadlines. The scaling effort represents a push to address increased demand within the defense sector, with industry partners, including Pratt & Whitney, supporting the initiative by accelerating component manufacturing.
