Lennar Begins Construction on Over 1,000 Homes in Downtown Las Vegas

Homebuilder Lennar celebrated the groundbreaking of The Foundry, a new residential community in downtown Las Vegas, on October 15, 2026. The approximately 70-acre development, situated on the former sites of the Cashman Center and Grant Sawyer Building, is planned to feature over 1,000 townhomes and single-family detached homes. The initiative seeks to broaden access to affordable homeownership within the city's core.

This redevelopment of underutilized downtown properties represents a significant investment and a collaborative effort between public and private entities. Homes are projected to start in the $300,000s, with vertical construction anticipated to commence in October 2027.

Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo highlighted the project's benefits, including cost savings for the state achieved by relocating government employees from the aging Grant Sawyer Building. "This is a great example of how we can put state property to better use, save taxpayer dollars, and expand housing opportunities for Nevada families," Lombardo stated.

Las Vegas Mayor Shelley Berkley and City Councilwoman Shondra Summers-Armstrong emphasized the project's importance for essential city workers, such as those in hospitality, education, and emergency services. The community will also feature amenities including swimming pools, outdoor kitchens, and parks.
