LG Display Introduces New OLED Technology for IT Products

LG Display has unveiled its FLiPP technology, which enhances material utilization and production efficiency. The new technology will be initially applied to IT display panels.

12 October 2026

LG Display introduced the advantages of its new FLiPP (FMM-less OLED) technology during a technical seminar held on October 8. The company's Chief Technology Officer, Choi Young-seok, detailed how the new method significantly improves material usage and production efficiency compared to previous processes.

A key benefit of FLiPP technology is its ability to manufacture displays on full-size glass substrates without the need for halving, leading to reduced waste and better material utilization. For instance, when producing 23.5-inch panels, the older FMM process yielded only 75% material utilization, whereas FLiPP achieves over 93%. The efficiency of organic EL material deposition also increases from 40% to 74%.

Furthermore, FLiPP technology leverages existing WOLED production infrastructure and supports continuous deposition processes. This reduces process steps and intervals, shortening the overall deposition time by up to 40%.

LG Display plans to first implement FLiPP technology in display panels for tablets and laptops. The company intends to gradually expand its application to wearable devices and televisions. The technology is also suitable for XR applications.

Company officials highlighted that the new process offers substantial gains in material efficiency and production costs, paving the way for more competitive OLED displays in the future.
