LG Electronics outlines HVAC strategies for building decarbonization

LG Electronics is highlighting the crucial role of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems in reducing building carbon emissions and enhancing energy efficiency. According to a blog post by the company, building operations account for a substantial portion of global energy consumption and emissions, making them a logical focus for achieving climate targets.

Increasingly stringent global decarbonization goals, such as the United Nations' targets to cut emissions by 45% by 2030 and reach net-zero by 2050, are escalating pressure on organizations. LG notes that building owners and facility operators are increasingly facing the need to reduce direct fossil fuel use, improve efficiency, and transition to more electrified solutions.

The blog outlines a "staged approach" to decarbonizing buildings, beginning with energy assessment and benchmarking before capital upgrades. Heat pumps are identified as a key technology that can replace fossil fuel-based heating systems, thereby significantly lowering emissions.

LG suggests that technologies such as high-efficiency HVAC systems, smart energy management solutions, and electrified heating are pivotal for improving the long-term performance of buildings.
