LG Explains How Active Noise Canceling (ANC) Works

LG Electronics has published a guide detailing how Active Noise Canceling (ANC) technology functions in headphones and earbuds. The system uses microphones to detect ambient sound and generates opposing sound waves to cancel noise.

LG Electronics has released a comprehensive guide explaining the mechanics behind Active Noise Canceling (ANC) technology, commonly found in audio devices like headphones and earbuds.

The system operates by employing microphones to detect external ambient sounds. Subsequently, it generates an inverse sound wave that effectively neutralizes the detected noise before it reaches the listener's ears. LG notes that ANC is most effective against consistent, low-frequency sounds, such as engine hums or air conditioning, and its performance is enhanced by a secure fit.

What was once a high-end feature is now standard in many audio products, according to LG. The technology is particularly beneficial in noisy environments like public transport or offices, where it can improve audio clarity, reduce listening fatigue, and make phone calls more intelligible.

The guide also touches on how ANC works in conjunction with passive noise reduction and how it enhances call quality through Environmental Noise Cancellation (ENC). ENC technology isolates the user's voice from background disturbances during calls, ensuring clearer communication.
