LG Innotek Boosts Corporate Transformation with Semiconductor Substrates and Physical AI
LG Innotek reported a significant earnings rebound in the first half of the year, driven by strong performance in its semiconductor substrate and physical AI businesses.
Seoul, South Korea – LG Innotek has demonstrated tangible results from its ongoing corporate transformation, achieving a notable performance rebound in the first half of the year, traditionally a slower period for the company.
The company posted revenues of USD 8.22 billion and an operating profit of USD 401.96 million for the first half. This represents year-over-year increases of 24 percent and 296 percent, respectively, marking a significant earnings surprise not seen since 2022.
The improved financial standing is attributed to a strategic focus on its semiconductor substrate business. Following a business structure reform initiated in 2023, LG Innotek has prioritized high-margin, high-value-added products. Its expertise in RF-SiP (Radio Frequency-System in Package) substrates, including Cu-Post technology, has secured a leading global market share. The company has also expanded its FC-CSP (Flip Chip-Chip Scale Package) substrates into the memory sector, driven by the AI boom, and is commencing mass production of FC-BGA for PC chipsets, with plans to enter AI accelerator and server markets.
Concurrently, LG Innotek is expanding its physical AI solution businesses to secure future growth engines. The autonomous driving sensing solutions segment is progressing rapidly, leveraging the company's optical capabilities from its mobile camera module business. LG Innotek possesses comprehensive technology for automotive cameras, LiDAR, and radar, and has formed strategic partnerships, including one with autonomous driving software firm Applied Intuition.
The company's robotics component business has also begun generating revenue, with current production of camera modules for humanoid robots. LG Innotek aims to be a comprehensive "physical AI total solution provider," integrating sensing modules, communication modules, and semiconductor substrates. The company projects its package solution business, including semiconductor substrates, to achieve an operating profit of USD 743 million by 2031.
