LG Innotek Deploys Data Collection Fleet for Autonomous Driving Sensors

LG Innotek has begun deploying a fleet of vehicles in South Korea to gather data for its autonomous driving sensor systems, in collaboration with autonomous software firm Applied Intuition. The company announced it will operate data collection and autonomous software development vehicles, centered around the Seoul, Incheon, and Gyeonggi regions. The plan includes having 20 vehicles operational by 2028.

Further international deployment is planned, with these vehicles also set to operate in the United States, Europe, and Japan. While many autonomous driving companies invest heavily in fleets, it is rare for a sensor solutions provider like LG Innotek to operate its own data collection fleet.

The autonomous vehicles will be equipped with LG Innotek's cameras, radar, and lidar systems. The company intends to leverage the collected data, combined with digital twin environments, to improve the performance of individual sensors and validate the effectiveness of the overall system, laying a technical foundation for market expansion.

LG Innotek will focus on sensor fusion and scenarios involving extreme operating conditions, while also ensuring the protection of public privacy in its data collection efforts.
