LG Refrigerator Frost Management and Defrosting Guide Released

LG ELECTRONICS INC. has published a comprehensive guide to help consumers manage and defrost frost build-up in their LG refrigerators. Excessive ice accumulation can significantly reduce appliance efficiency, increase energy bills, and diminish storage space.

The company notes that while many LG refrigerators feature 'Total No Frost' technology, certain conditions can still lead to ice formation. Key causes include frequent door openings, storing warm food items, damaged or dirty door seals, high ambient humidity, and potential malfunctions in the appliance's automatic defrost system.

LG recommends manual defrosting when a thick layer of ice (over 5 mm) forms on freezer walls or shelves, food is not freezing properly, cooling performance declines, or doors cannot close fully due to ice obstruction. These steps are also advised following power outages or noticeable performance degradation.

The defrosting process involves unplugging the unit, removing all food to a cooler, and placing towels or trays to catch meltwater. Consumers are advised to allow natural thawing or expedite it by placing bowls of hot water inside, cautioning against using sharp objects or heat guns to remove ice. After cleaning and thoroughly drying the interior, the refrigerator should be plugged back in and allowed to cool for at least 30 minutes before restocking.

To prevent future frost issues, LG suggests limiting door openings, cooling food before storage, regularly checking and cleaning door seals, avoiding overloading to ensure air circulation, and utilizing the LG ThinQ™ app for performance monitoring and maintenance alerts.
