Light Unveils $299 Flip Phone Without Internet Access

Light, known for its minimalist phones, has introduced its latest device, the Light Flip. This new model is designed for users seeking a simpler digital experience, deliberately omitting internet connectivity, social media, and email.

The Light Flip is available for pre-order starting July 21, with the first batch scheduled to ship in April 2027. Unlike previous models, it will come in six color options. The phone features a tactile button interface with predictive T9 text input. While it supports voice messages and voice-to-text, the company aims to encourage more voice calls.

Company co-founders noted a growing demand for flip phones, particularly among young adults rediscovering the technology. Kaiwei Tang, a co-founder, observed that many young people are embracing flip phones as a statement against the constant connectivity offered by smartphones and AI.

The Light Flip boasts a 2.8-inch display. When closed, the exterior includes a camera, flashlight, and a notification light. It features a USB-C charging port and a 3.5mm AUX headphone jack. The device operates on 5G and 4G LTE networks and is compatible with most major carriers, though Light also offers its own service.

The phone is priced at $299. Alternatively, customers can opt for a plan costing $39 per month over 24 months, which includes the Light carrier service.
