Lightning Fibre expands network, passing 10,000 homes

Network builder and operator Lightning Fibre has reached a milestone, having passed 10,000 premises with its full fibre broadband network. The company, based in Polegate, has been focused on expanding its infrastructure across East Sussex.

To mark the occasion, which was achieved slightly ahead of schedule, Lightning Fibre provided a homeowner with a year of free 1Gb full fibre service. "We are delighted to achieve this milestone and look forward to reaching every home and business in Eastbourne in the year ahead," said Community Engagement Manager Rob De Gouveia. The company emphasizes that its new network does not rely on the BT Openreach copper wire infrastructure, enabling faster speeds and more reliable connectivity.

In addition to Eastbourne, Lightning Fibre is currently rolling out its network to nearby towns including Hastings and St. Leonards. The company also plans to deploy services in Hailsham and Heathfield, with further expansion in East Sussex under consideration. This build of a completely new, independent fibre infrastructure aims to provide residents with improved connectivity compared to existing copper-based services.

The company's strategy involves building a new, dedicated fibre service capable of delivering speeds up to 1 Gbps. This move signifies a significant development for network infrastructure in the region and strengthens Lightning Fibre's position in the broadband services market.
