Lilly's EloraTZP combination therapy shows greater weight loss and A1C reduction

Eli Lilly and Company announced on September 30, 2026, positive results from a Phase 2b trial of EloraTZP, an investigational combination of eloralintide and tirzepatide. The study evaluated the drug combination in 367 adults with obesity or overweight and type 2 diabetes.

Findings from the 48-week study indicated that participants receiving EloraTZP achieved an average weight loss of up to 23.3% (approximately 54.1 lbs), significantly exceeding the 14.8% average weight loss (approximately 34.4 lbs) seen with tirzepatide 15 mg alone. Additionally, EloraTZP led to an average A1C reduction of up to 2.9%, compared to 2.4% with tirzepatide 15 mg.

EloraTZP works by simultaneously activating three nutrient-stimulated hormones: GIP, GLP-1, and amylin, which play roles in regulating hunger and blood sugar. Based on these results, Lilly plans to initiate Phase 3 trials of EloraTZP by the end of 2026.

The most common adverse events reported were gastrointestinal in nature and generally mild to moderate. Treatment discontinuation rates due to adverse events ranged from 10.8% to 27.0% across the EloraTZP combination arms.
