This figure was seen as inconsistent with the positive outlook previously provided. The announcement resulted in a sharp decline of $10.22 per share, or 24.9%, erasing over $300 million in market capitalization in a single day.

"We are focused on whether Lincoln Educational may have intentionally misled investors about its student start metrics," stated Reed Kathrein, the Hagens Berman partner leading the investigation.
