Lincoln Investment Data Breach Exposes Social Security Numbers, Financial Data

The law firm Edelson Lechtzin LLP has launched an investigation into a data security incident at Lincoln Investment Planning, LLC, which may have compromised sensitive customer and employee information. The firm is offering free case evaluations to individuals affected by the breach.

The incident, disclosed to the Massachusetts Attorney General on September 17, 2026, reportedly affected at least 1,867 individuals in Massachusetts and 52 residents in Vermont. The exposed data could include names, Social Security numbers, financial account details, credit and debit card numbers, government-issued identification, and medical information.

Lincoln Investment, a full-service broker-dealer and registered investment advisor, has stated that the breach also impacts customers and employees connected to its affiliates, Capital Analysts of New England, Inc. (CANE) and Capital Analysts, LLC. The company provides nationwide investment, wealth management, and retirement planning services.

Edelson Lechtzin LLP is examining whether Lincoln Investment implemented adequate cybersecurity safeguards to protect personal data. The firm notes that the exposure of highly sensitive information like Social Security numbers and financial details poses a significant, long-term risk of identity theft and financial fraud for those affected.
