LineageOS 24 released with support for Android 17

The LineageOS development team has released version 24, which migrates the custom ROM to Google's Android 17 platform. The release arrives four months after the official AOSP debut and expands support to 24 additional device models from manufacturers including Google, Samsung, OnePlus, and Xiaomi.

The project faces a more complex development cycle due to Google’s shift toward a six-month AOSP release schedule and a revised, quarterly security patch strategy. Despite these constraints, the developers confirmed they will integrate full security bulletins for all active versions from Android 14 upward, spanning through October 2026.

In addition to the underlying OS update, the team has overhauled several core applications to match the Material Design 3 aesthetic. Notable additions include a new photo editor, Canvas, and enhanced shortcut support within the Jelly browser. The project continues its maintenance cycle as it approaches its tenth anniversary.
