Lingnan University's Department of Digital Arts and Creative Industries (DACI) has significantly strengthened its academic offerings and revised its curricula. The department, formerly known as the Department of Visual Studies, is expanding its focus to encompass the creative and media industries more broadly.

The development of new programs is central to the department's strategy. The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Creative Media Industries, launched in 2022, provides in-depth theoretical and practical training, preparing students for future roles in the burgeoning creative sectors of Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area. Key areas of focus include film and television, animation, museums and curating, art history, as well as digital and immersive media.

The department's history traces back to 2009 with the launch of a Visual Studies program. Over the years, the curriculum has evolved to meet changing industry demands. A notable transformation occurred in 2023 with the reorganization and renaming to DACI. Additionally, a new Master's program in Creative and Media Industries was introduced in 2021, and the Bachelor of Arts in Visual Studies program was revamped into the Bachelor of Arts in Film and Visual Arts in 2024.

DACI's academic staff is international, comprising experts in film and media studies, media industries and policies, museum studies, and contemporary art. The focus is on understanding the interplay between film, new media, contemporary arts, and the creative industries. The department aims to equip students with a comprehensive understanding and practical skills essential for success in the global media landscape.
