Lingnan University has climbed to 257th place in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2027. This represents a nearly 100-place jump, marking the most significant improvement among Hong Kong's eight UGC-funded universities.

Lingnan University has achieved a significant ascent in the latest Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2027, securing the 257th position globally. The university made a substantial leap of nearly 100 places from its previous standing in the 301–350 band, demonstrating the largest improvement among the eight UGC-funded universities in Hong Kong SAR.
The ranking evaluates institutions across five core areas: teaching, research environment, research quality, international outlook, and industry. Lingnan's upward movement signifies international recognition for its quality education, industry-academia research collaborations, internationalization efforts, and its focus on cultivating research-oriented liberal arts talent for the digital age.
Professor S. Joe Qin, President of Lingnan University, attributed the rise to the university's recent achievements in teaching, research, and knowledge transfer. He highlighted a six-fold year-on-year increase in patents granted to scholars and a more than doubled success rate in securing funding from the National Natural Science Foundation of China's Young Scientists Fund.
This latest ranking follows a series of strong performances by Lingnan University in other international assessments. The university was ranked first for "SDG 4: Quality Education" in the THE Sustainability Impact Ratings 2026 for the second consecutive year and entered the top 100 in Asia, ranking 84th in the THE Asia University Rankings. Lingnan also saw considerable improvements in the QS World University Rankings 2027 and the ShanghaiRanking's Academic Ranking of World Universities.
