Professor Natalie Pang, Head of the Department of Science at Lingnan University and a recipient of the University Grants Committee's (UGC) Postdoctoral Fellowship Scheme, has been awarded the AI+ Social Impact Award 2026 for her "GeoAI Mosquito-borne Disease Smart Prevention and Control Solution". The award was presented at the AI+ Innovation Awards 2026 ceremony. The project addresses the growing challenge of mosquito-borne diseases, which pose significant public health threats. Traditional mosquito control methods often rely on reactive measures and delayed data, prompting the development of this GeoAI-based solution. The GeoAI system aims to upgrade mosquito control paradigms by enabling proactive prediction of high-risk areas and facilitating precise resource deployment for smart cities through the integration of diverse environmental data. It also seeks to establish a long-term monitoring mechanism to effectively reduce the transmission risk of diseases like dengue fever. This recognition highlights Lingnan University's commitment to integrating liberal arts education with innovation. The university plans to continue fostering digital humanities and interdisciplinary education, translating cutting-edge academic research into practical solutions for community health.
