LinkedIn to Make Falsifying Employment Data More Difficult

LinkedIn, the professional networking platform owned by Microsoft, is rolling out new tools designed to combat inaccurate employment information on user profiles.

The platform will introduce a feature enabling verified companies to remove impersonating employee accounts from their associated member lists and search results. This aims to prevent individuals from falsely inflating their resumes and to counter scams where individuals pose as company representatives.

Additionally, LinkedIn is piloting a workplace verification system. This feature requires users listing a company as their current employer to verify their affiliation using a work email address. The goal is to ensure more accurate employment data on profiles.

LinkedIn stated that it recognizes not all workers have access to company email, such as freelancers and field staff. The company noted exceptions for these roles, allowing users to select employment types like "self-employed" or "freelance."

The features are scheduled for a phased global rollout to verified companies over the coming weeks.
