LIPSIA-STRATEGY study demonstrates non-inferiority of CAAS-vFFR for revascularization
A multicenter study of 1,053 patients confirms that angiographic-derived vFFR provides clinical outcomes comparable to traditional pressure-wire FFR in coronary revascularization.

The results of the LIPSIA-STRATEGY trial, presented at the Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics (TCT) 2026 congress, indicate that CAAS-vFFR-guided revascularization is a viable alternative to standard pressure-wire fractional flow reserve (FFR). The study was published simultaneously in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology (JACC).
Led by Professor Holger Thiele of the University of Leipzig, the randomized clinical trial evaluated 1,053 patients with intermediate coronary artery stenoses. The primary endpoint was the incidence of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) within one year. Findings confirmed that the angiographic-based approach matched the clinical efficacy of wire-based diagnostics, reinforcing previous data from the FAST-III trial.
Proponents note that the CAAS-vFFR method offers a less invasive workflow, shorter procedural times, and reduced radiation exposure for medical staff and patients. Pie Medical Imaging aims to utilize these findings to further support the integration of physiology-based decision-making throughout the percutaneous coronary intervention process.
