Lloyds Study Shows Digital Finance Tool Use Varies Across UK Regions

Lloyds Banking Group's "Money mapped" study indicates that the adoption and use of digital financial tools and artificial intelligence vary considerably across the United Kingdom's regions. The research, based on a survey of 5,000 UK adults, highlights disparities in how individuals leverage technology for budgeting, saving, investing, and debt management.

Nationally, 88% of digital tool users report managing or monitoring their finances at least weekly. Those who have acted on AI recommendations estimate average savings of £399. London stands out as a leader in AI adoption, with 49% reporting daily or weekly use. London-based AI users also report average savings of £562, yet their confidence in using digital tools is the lowest among UK regions.

Different regions focus on distinct financial activities. Yorkshire and the Humber lead in budgeting and spending tracking at 44%. The East Midlands is at the forefront of debt reduction at 24%, while users in Wales are most active in managing or growing investments and savings at 23%.

In Scotland, reward apps and credit score checks are most common. In the South West, 48% of users feel digital services help them better control their finances. Northern Ireland's results, based on a small sample, suggest technology speeds up financial management and aids goal achievement.

The study also notes AI's application in managing immediate financial pressures and long-term planning. For instance, in the North West, 31% of AI users employ it for debt management and 44% for financial planning.
