LMU Munich awarded "University of Excellence" funding
Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU) has been awarded funding as a "University of Excellence" under Germany's federal and state government's Excellence Strategy.

Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU) has secured funding as a "University of Excellence" under Germany's federal and state government's Excellence Strategy. This recognition signifies a significant financial commitment to the university's research endeavors.
LMU has a history of success in Germany's university excellence competitions, dating back to 2006. With this new strategy, the university aims to bolster its international standing and invest substantially in emerging research fields alongside established areas of expertise. The objective is to attract leading academics and provide them with competitive career paths.
Key components of the strategy include developing flexible recruitment models and expanding its academic career program to facilitate early research engagement for junior academics. LMU also intends to enhance its research and networking conditions through campus development, further solidifying its position as a leading European university destination.
The funding is initially set for a seven-year period, with continuation contingent upon a successful interim evaluation. A prerequisite for receiving this funding was the approval of at least two "Clusters of Excellence." LMU and the Technical University of Munich (TUM), in collaboration with other partners, previously secured funding for four major research clusters.
LMU President Professor Bernd Huber highlighted that the universities' success demonstrates Munich's strength as a scientific hub. This funding ensures a long-term financial foundation for implementing the university's strategic development plans.
