Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU) has launched a new interdisciplinary Bachelor's program titled "Art and Multimedia." This program integrates artistic design, digital media, and media informatics, aiming to address the evolving demands of the professional world shaped by digitalization.
The program, institutionally housed within art pedagogy and media informatics, is designed to equip students with a broad range of competencies in the digital media field. It seeks to foster the ability to develop meaningful concepts for the application of new technologies, such as designing virtual spaces and the human-centered use of artificial intelligence.
Furthermore, the "Art and Multimedia" program incorporates aspects of art pedagogy, encouraging students to reflect on the course content from a didactic standpoint. This dual focus prepares them for both further academic specialization and entry into the workforce, with modules in cultural management and Design Thinking.
Students will acquire technical skills, including programming, which is essential for a deeper understanding of digital multimedia systems. A mandatory minor in media informatics ensures a solid foundation in technical and scientific knowledge. LMU states that the curriculum is intended to prepare graduates for diverse roles within the media society.
