LMU Munich restructures media relations and internal communications

Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU) manages its public and internal communications through a dedicated department headed by Claudia Russo and deputy Katrin Röder. The office is responsible for disseminating information regarding academic research, study programs, and campus developments to both the university community and external stakeholders.

Acting as the primary interface for journalists, the department provides media support, including access to a database of academic experts, press releases, and logistical support for campus-based filming. Beyond media relations, the team manages the university’s corporate design standards and editorial tone, providing guidance to faculties and administrative departments.

The department’s remit also covers event coordination—such as welcome activities for incoming students—and the administration of the university's merchandise shop. Operating from its base on Leopoldstraße, the unit facilitates communication through digital magazines, social media, and a dedicated internal service portal.
