Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU) has reported an increase in student enrollment for the start of the 2023/24 winter semester. Over 52,800 students have registered, surpassing the previous year's figures.

Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU) has seen its student numbers grow at the beginning of the 2023/24 winter semester, a trend contrary to many other universities. As of mid-October, the university reported that 52,818 students had enrolled.
This figure represents a notable increase from the 52,276 students registered at the start of the 2022/23 winter semester. The university welcomed 9,040 new registrations, 521 more than in the previous year. Enrollment remains open, and further increases are anticipated in the coming weeks.
The university also noted a rise in its international student population, with 10,496 foreign students currently enrolled. This accounts for 20 percent of the total student body, significantly exceeding the national average of just under 12 percent.
LMU President Professor Bernd Huber stated that the growing numbers reflect the university's appeal and excellent study conditions. Professor Oliver Jahraus, Vice President for Teaching and Studies, highlighted that students choose LMU for its research-focused and innovative teaching, along with its broad subject range and interdisciplinary initiatives in areas such as AI and sustainability.
