LMU Rises to 34th in THE University Rankings
Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU) has climbed to 34th place in the global Times Higher Education World University Rankings, improving by four positions from the previous year.

Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU) has achieved the 34th position in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2026. This marks an improvement of four places from its previous ranking of 38.
The university also maintains a strong position within the European Union, ranking second in a comparison of EU-wide universities. The latest THE rankings evaluated nearly 2,200 institutions from 115 countries.
At the top of the international list, universities from the United Kingdom and the United States continue to lead. The University of Oxford secured the first place, followed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in second. Princeton University and the University of Cambridge shared the third position.
The THE rankings are determined by 18 indicators across categories such as teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and academic citations. Citation data have been collected in cooperation with Elsevier (Scopus) since 2015.
