LMU spin-off Amplifold secures five million euros for diagnostic testing tech

Amplifold, an LMU Munich spin-off, has closed a five million euro seed funding round to support the commercialization of its signal-amplification technology for diagnostic tests. The company aims to apply its DNA origami nanostructures to improve the performance of lateral flow assays (LFAs).

According to co-founder Enzo Kopperger, the technology allows for up to a 100-fold increase in analytical sensitivity without increasing production costs, enabling rapid tests to reach diagnostic standards previously limited to lab environments. The architecture is designed for integration into existing industrial manufacturing workflows.

The company is relocating its operations to the Innovation and Start-Up Center for Biotechnology (IZB) in Martinsried. The capital will primarily support product development and the regulatory path required to obtain IVDR approval in Europe for its first in-vitro diagnostic device.
