Local Cyclists Demand Safer Evening Routes Via Illuminated Ride
Bitton and Oldland Cycling Club is hosting the 'Bitton Glow Ride' on October 22, 2026, to advocate for improved cycling safety after dark.

The Bitton and Oldland Cycling Club, a 130-member local group, is organizing the 'Bitton Glow Ride' on October 22, 2026, starting from the historic Bitton Station. This event is part of a broader national campaign by Cycling UK, involving over 60 rides across the country.
The initiative aims to raise awareness and demand safer cycling infrastructure, particularly for women and vulnerable road users who experience reduced freedom of movement after sunset. Participants are encouraged to decorate their bicycles with lights and high-visibility gear, transforming the Bristol to Bath Railway Path into a moving parade of lights.
Steve Cox, Chair of the Bitton and Oldland Cycling Club, recalled last year's ride despite challenging weather conditions, describing it as a success. He anticipates this year's event to be "brighter, bigger, and even better," beginning from the Victorian forecourt of Bitton Station.
The ride is open to all cyclists and aims to unite riders of all abilities on various types of bicycles for a common cause. Free tickets and event details are available on Eventbrite, with organizers hoping the illuminated procession will highlight the need for safer cycling conditions.
