Lockheed Martin Unveils PAC-3 Edge Interceptor for U.S. Army

Lockheed Martin unveiled its new PAC-3 Edge interceptor on October 9, 2026, a system designed to counter advanced threats such as hypersonic missiles. The interceptor builds upon combat-proven PAC-3 MSE technology and incorporates new capabilities for the U.S. Army.

The new interceptor is part of the U.S. Army's Future Interceptor program competition, with Lockheed Martin advancing to the next development stage. The Army's decision reflects confidence in Lockheed Martin's integrated air and missile defense (IAMD) experience.

The PAC-3 Edge features a new seeker developed by Lockheed Martin and a multi-pulse solid rocket motor from Northrop Grumman. Lockheed Martin has also upgraded the interceptor's control systems to enhance its performance at range and altitude.

Lockheed Martin plans to begin testing the PAC-3 Edge in 2027, with a goal for deployment by 2031. Significant investment has been made to develop the advanced seeker technology.
