London Stock Exchange to Launch New 24/5 Trading Venue

London Stock Exchange (LSE) has announced plans to introduce LSE 24, a new trading venue intended to support near-continuous trading five days a week. This initiative is designed to meet the evolving needs of digital, algorithmic, and agentic trading.

The new LSE 24 venue will operate separately from the LSE's Main Market. It aims to offer global investors greater flexibility to respond to market events across time zones and access liquidity outside of traditional UK trading hours. The platform will integrate elements of a central limit order book with request-for-quote functionality.

Client testing for LSE 24 is anticipated by the end of 2026. Subject to regulatory approval, Exchange Traded Products (ETPs) are slated to be the first asset class launched on the venue in the first half of 2027. The exchange noted that ETPs are a logical starting point due to London's established role in this market.

LSE 24 will be built on LSEG's (London Stock Exchange Group) existing financial market infrastructure. The move is intended to reinforce London's position as a global financial center by enhancing market accessibility. The venue will also connect with LSEG's digital markets infrastructure and potentially its developing Digital Securities Depository, which aims to digitize the issuance, settlement, and servicing of securities.
