Long Island University Appoints Michael Schade as Vice President and General Counsel

Long Island University (LIU) has appointed Michael A. Schade to the role of Vice President and General Counsel. Schade joins the administration from the University of Oklahoma, where he served as the Executive Director for Research Legal Strategy and Assistant General Counsel.

Schade brings nearly two decades of experience in higher education law, specifically focusing on institutional governance, sponsored research, intellectual property, and technology commercialization. During his tenure at the University of Oklahoma, he oversaw negotiations for more than $1 billion in research agreements over a five-year period.

The appointment aligns with LIU’s current institutional focus on expanding its scientific research enterprise and industry partnerships. As the university invests in new academic infrastructure and emerging technologies, Schade will be tasked with managing legal strategy, university governance, and the commercialization of research initiatives.
