A new study evaluating the long-term safety of the RefluxStop device for treating acid reflux has been published in the journal Scientific Reports. The research, which tracked 602 patients across 22 centers in Europe, provides data over a follow-up period reaching 6.75 years.

The findings indicate that more than 98% of patients did not require reoperation due to serious safety complications. Researchers noted that the rate of hiatal hernia recurrence—a common issue in standard anti-reflux surgeries—was significantly lower among the study participants than in traditional surgical procedures.

Lead author Professor Sebastian Schoppmann presented the data at the American Foregut Society Meeting to gauge interest from U.S. medical professionals. Implantica expects these findings to bolster the clinical profile of the device as it seeks FDA approval for potential entry into the United States market.
