Long-Term Uranium Price Surpasses 2007 Peak

The long-term price for uranium concluded September at $96.50 per pound, exceeding its 2007 peak. Concurrently, the spot price closed the month at $89.63. Prices agreed upon by utilities for future delivery have now surpassed spot market rates, suggesting buyers are anticipating tighter supply later this decade.

Producers and lithium suppliers have been active, reporting financial results, signing offtake agreements, and restructuring portfolios. Despite the rise in long-term uranium contract prices, uranium company equities have not mirrored this trend. For instance, Cameco Corporation's shares had declined 6.9% year-to-date.

Policy support for new nuclear reactors continues to grow. The United States and South Korea announced a framework in late September anticipating approximately $120 billion in Korean investment for deploying Westinghouse reactor technology within the U.S.

In the lithium sector, Chinese battery-grade lithium carbonate averaged 122,350 yuan per tonne on October 9. Producers outside China are continuing to secure long-term buyers and advance new extraction projects.
