LONGi Achieves New World Record for Solar Cell Efficiency

SHANGHAI – Chinese technology company LONGi announced a new world record for solar cell efficiency, achieving 35.5% conversion efficiency for its independently developed crystalline silicon-perovskite tandem solar cell. The result has been certified by the European Solar Test Installation (ESTI).

The announcement was made at the 2026 Solar and Energy Storage Innovation Conference. Crystalline silicon-perovskite tandem cells are considered a leading technology for next-generation solar power, with a theoretical efficiency limit of up to 43%, significantly higher than the theoretical limit for single-junction cells.

This latest achievement follows a series of advancements by LONGi. The company previously reached 33.9% efficiency in November 2023 and has since seen steady progress, increasing the efficiency to 34.6% in June 2024 before reaching the current record of 35.5%.

LONGi has also demonstrated the technology's potential for industrial application, achieving efficiencies of 34.3% and 32.2% on larger cell areas closer to industrial scale. Furthermore, certified tandem module efficiencies of 31.4% and 29.4% have been recorded, indicating strong prospects for scaling up this technology from laboratory research to mass production.
