LONGi Presents Solar Pathways for Food Security at UNCCD COP17

LONGi participated in the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD COP17) in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, highlighting the role of solar technology in enhancing food security. LONGi CEO Li Zhenguo presented two key technological pathways that utilize solar power to improve agricultural productivity and combat desertification.

The first approach discussed involved the expanded deployment of solar-powered irrigation systems. These systems provide a reliable and sustainable solution for arid regions where water availability is a critical challenge. By using solar energy for water pumping and distribution, these systems support crop growth while reducing reliance on fossil fuels.

The second pathway emphasized the application of solar energy in energy-intensive agricultural processes, such as food drying and storage. Electrifying these post-harvest activities with solar power can significantly reduce crop losses, improve food quality, and extend shelf life, which is particularly beneficial in areas with limited infrastructure.

The UNCCD COP17 conference aims to promote sustainable land management and address the impacts of desertification and drought globally. LONGi's contributions underscored the importance of technological solutions, particularly renewable energy, in tackling these environmental and food security issues. The company suggests that solar power holds the potential to transform agriculture towards more sustainable and productive practices.
