NINGBO, China – LONGWELL, a global manufacturer of EC fans and motors, has successfully implemented a new fan technology that reduces energy consumption in Computer Room Air Handler (CRAH) units by up to 38%. This advancement marks a significant step towards more energy-efficient data centers, particularly as AI applications continue to grow.
The precision cooling original equipment manufacturer (OEM) moved from design lock to mass production within 90 days. The new technology resulted in an improved Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) for data centers, dropping from a baseline of 1.42 to 1.28. This efficiency gain translates to substantial reductions in overall data center energy consumption and operational costs.
LONGWELL's technology specifically targets CRAH units, which are responsible for a significant portion of a data center's cooling-related energy use. Electronically Commutated (EC) fans are inherently more energy-efficient than traditional AC fans, and LONGWELL's new design further optimizes their performance.
The improved PUE is a critical metric for data center operations, measuring the total energy consumed by a facility against the energy delivered to the IT equipment. A lower PUE indicates a smaller carbon footprint and reduced operating expenses, factors increasingly vital for data center operators worldwide.
