Lorde calls AI glasses 'not sexy'

Pop star Lorde has directly criticized the emerging AI glasses technology, describing them as "not sexy" during a performance at the Mad Cool Festival in Madrid last week.

Speaking from the stage, Lorde addressed the technology, stating that it increasingly makes it difficult to discern reality. "Increasingly in our world, it gets harder and harder to know what is real," Lorde told the audience. She continued, "Can I just say, for the record, f— the glasses. Don’t get the glasses. Not sexy."

The artist's comments occurred at a festival where one of its sponsors, Ray-Ban, partners with Meta to produce AI glasses. Lorde also performed immediately before artist Jennie, who is an ambassador for Ray-Ban x Meta's smart glasses line.

This stance against technology is not entirely new for Lorde, who has previously written metaphorically about throwing her phone into the ocean. Her remarks on smart glasses reflect a wider concern about the role of digital technology and its potential impacts on the perception of reality and privacy, which some security experts have already deemed a "privacy nightmare."
