Loro Piana sets new world record for fine Merino wool fiber
Loro Piana's Record Bale Award has recognized a new world record for Merino wool fineness, with a 10.2-micron fiber produced by Pyreness Park in Australia.
Luxury brand Loro Piana has announced a new world record for the fineness of Merino wool fiber, achieved through its annual Record Bale Award. The 24th and 25th editions of the award ceremony took place in London on February 1.
The Australian 2023 Loro Piana World Record Bale Award was presented to Pyreness Park farm, owned by breeders Pamela, Robert, and Bradley Sandlant, for producing a Merino wool fiber measuring just 10.2 microns. This surpasses the previous 2013 record of 10.3 microns and highlights the breeders' dedication to producing exceptionally fine wool.
Barrie and Yvonne Payne of Visuela Farm in New Zealand received the New Zealand 2023 Loro Piana Record Bale Award. The event was hosted by Loro Piana CEO Damien Bertrand and Deputy Chairman Pier Luigi Loro Piana, who has long championed the pursuit of the finest Merino wool.
Each Record Bale wool garment carries a special label detailing its traceability, from the animal's shearing year and origin to the fiber's micron count. The award, first established in 1997, encourages wool farmers in Australia and New Zealand to continuously elevate standards in wool production, with only a select few bales qualifying for the final prize each year.
