Wuhan Lotus Cars is recalling 33 units of the Lotus Elise 220, imported into China and manufactured between June 10, 2014, and December 13, 2015. The safety recall addresses a manufacturing defect within the low-pressure fuel pump that poses a significant hazard to vehicle operation.

Investigation revealed that insufficient resin density in the fuel pump impeller can cause the component to swell and deform when exposed to fuel. This deformation results in physical interference with the pump housing, leading to fuel delivery failure and the potential for the engine to stall unexpectedly while the vehicle is in motion.

To mitigate the safety risk, Wuhan Lotus Cars will provide free replacements of the faulty fuel pumps with improved components. Owners of the affected vehicles are expected to be contacted for the necessary repairs.
