Louis Vuitton has reported on the results of its first year collaborating with the conservation charity People For Wildlife on a five-year initiative to protect and restore biodiversity. The project covers a 400,000-hectare area within the Apudthama reserve on the Cape York Peninsula in Queensland, Australia.

The partnership stems from a long-standing relationship between the luxury house and Australian biologist Dr. Daniel Natusch, who founded People For Wildlife in 2020. This collaboration aims to deepen Louis Vuitton's contribution to biodiversity and climate goals, aligning with LVMH's LIFE360 environmental program and UN biodiversity targets.

During the first year, baseline metrics for biodiversity were established, and monitoring systems were implemented across the challenging terrain. These efforts have led to the discovery of two new species: a unique mushroom and a new snake species, which is currently under scientific study. Over half a million camera trap images have also been collected, documenting the area's wildlife and ecosystem health.

The project emphasizes collaboration with the Traditional Owners of the Apudthama reserve, who have a deep historical connection to the land. Forest rangers, experts, interns, volunteers, and Traditional Owners have worked together to lay the groundwork for the reserve's restoration.
