Love Chara Uses AI and Quizzes to Engage Gen Z Women
Japanese startup Love Chara Inc. has developed an AI-driven ecosystem using personality quizzes to engage young women and license character intellectual property.

Love Chara Inc., a Japanese startup, has created a novel ecosystem combining artificial intelligence (AI), personality quizzes, and character licensing to engage female consumers within Generation Z. The company's business model is built around interactive diagnostic quizzes designed to help users identify their personality types while simultaneously introducing them to the company's proprietary characters.
These quizzes serve as a user onboarding mechanism into deeper engagement channels, including AI-powered chat interfaces that allow direct interaction with digital characters. The startup aims to provide businesses with an affordable method to connect with young Japanese women, a demographic that can be challenging to reach through traditional advertising. Love Chara's approach also facilitates faster development of new intellectual property compared to conventional methods, merging identity-driven engagement with character commerce in a scalable fashion.
The company reported achieving 35 million unique users in its first month of operation without any advertising spend. Love Chara has secured partnerships with entities such as Bandai, ABEMA, Seventeen, and KADOKAWA. It has distributed character intellectual property across 250 Bandai crane machines, and its Lovetype product was recognized in Japan's Teen Buzzword Awards 2025.
Competitors to Love Chara include established character entities like Sanrio and modern collectible manufacturers. The company differentiates itself by leveraging interactive AI tools and personalized engagement over reliance on physical merchandise or passive content consumption. Love Chara recently closed its pre-seed funding round and is not currently seeking additional capital.
