Lufthansa Strikes Paused for Negotiations

Lufthansa passengers will not face further disruptions from strikes for the time being. After five consecutive days of industrial action, the unions representing pilots and cabin crew have announced a pause to resume negotiations with the airline.

The Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) union for pilots and the Ufo organization for cabin attendants stated they would not initiate further strikes at Lufthansa and its subsidiary Cityline. The immediate goal is to explore possibilities for new negotiations or a potential mediation process. The prior strike actions had significantly impacted tens of thousands of passengers' travel plans daily.

Passengers affected by flight cancellations or significant delays due to strikes are entitled to support from the airline, such as meals and accommodation. However, airlines may not be obligated to pay compensation if they can demonstrate extraordinary circumstances, although strikes by their own staff can generally lead to compensation claims.

Travelers are advised to monitor their flight status online and contact the airline or tour operator if necessary. In case of flight cancellations due to strikes, airlines are required to inform affected passengers and offer alternatives, such as rebooking onto trains for domestic flights or other modes of transport.
