Chinese industry research firm Luotu Technology has released a white paper predicting significant growth for audio devices utilizing StarLink (Nearlink) technology in China. The report forecasts that by 2030, shipments of StarLink audio terminal devices in the country will exceed 180 million units. This adoption is expected to grant StarLink technology over 50% market penetration within the overall audio device sector.

The StarLink audio solutions are built upon next-generation wireless technology, offering a physical layer bandwidth of up to 16 Mbps. This capability is designed to stably support the 2.3 Mbps transmission rate required for high-fidelity, lossless audio at 48kHz/24bit specifications. A key advantage highlighted is the technology's compatibility with existing Bluetooth ecosystems, allowing for a seamless transition for users without the need to replace their current devices, thereby reducing migration costs for manufacturers and consumers.

Looking at shorter-term projections, Luotu Technology anticipates that by 2028, consumer-grade StarLink audio terminals will approach 100 million units. During this period, dual-mode StarLink-Bluetooth devices are expected to become widespread. The report further projects that by 2031, consumer StarLink audio terminals could surpass 200 million units, with devices integrating multiple modes like StarLink, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi becoming increasingly mature.

Luotu Technology points out that the integrated solution, leveraging the open-source Hóngmĕng operating system alongside StarLink, can facilitate seamless and context-aware interoperability between terminal devices and audio equipment. This technology is positioned to become a core driver of growth in the audio industry amidst increasing market competition.
