LVMH and Kering tighten model protection charter

Fashion groups LVMH and Kering have reinforced their joint commitment to improving working conditions for models. The updated charter raises the minimum age for models in professional settings to 18 and strengthens a zero-tolerance policy for harassment and sexual violence.

First established in 2017, the original charter focused on the health and well-being of models. These latest revisions aim to address contemporary societal challenges, including the fight against gender-based violence and the promotion of inclusion and protection for younger models.

The new regulations prohibit all forms of harassment and violence. They also mandate awareness and training initiatives for all involved parties. Model working environments will face increased monitoring, particularly in situations involving nudity or partial nudity, which now require explicit consent and ensure models are not left alone with production team members.

According to the agreement, oversight will be enhanced and reporting procedures strengthened, allowing models to report issues anonymously and securely. Unannounced checks and audits will also be conducted at workplaces. Model selection processes will emphasize diversity and non-discrimination, while respecting each brand's artistic freedom.

The updated rules will take effect from the upcoming Paris Fashion Week in 2027. LVMH stated the initiative is part of a broader effort to foster lasting change within the fashion industry's practices.
