Macau Legend Development Books HK$1.29 Billion Impairment
Macau Legend Development has announced a significant impairment charge of HK$1.29 billion (approximately US$165 million) related to its exit from satellite casino operations. This move will deepen the company's net loss for the first half of 2025.

Macau Legend Development has announced a significant impairment charge of HK$1.29 billion (approximately US$165 million) related to its Macau Fisherman’s Wharf complex assets. This financial writedown follows the confirmation that its service agreement with casino concessionaire SJM Resorts S.A. will not be renewed upon its expiration on December 31, 2025, effectively ending the company's satellite gaming operations, including the Legend Palace Casino.
Based on preliminary, unaudited accounts, the company anticipates a net loss of approximately HK$1.42 billion (around US$182 million) for the first half of 2025. This represents a substantial increase compared to the HK$110 million loss recorded in the same period last year.
Excluding the impairment charge and its associated tax effects, the company projects that its underlying losses will still increase by approximately 21% year-on-year. Overall revenue for the six-month period is also expected to decrease by about 12%.
The announcement highlights the financial challenges for Macau's casino operators amid sweeping regulatory and structural changes in the industry. Companies like Macau Legend Development are increasingly being pushed to pivot their business strategies towards non-gaming attractions.
