Machu Picchu Circuits Detailed for 2026-2027 Visitor Access
Machu Picchu has updated its visitor circuit system for 2026-2027, requiring visitors to select one of three main circuits. Each circuit offers distinct routes and access points to preserve the archaeological site.

Machu Picchu has finalized its visitor management plan for 2026-2027, detailing three primary circuits designed to protect the ancient Inca citadel and manage visitor flow. The system requires all visitors to book tickets for a specific circuit and time slot, directing them along one-way paths within the site.
The three main circuits are: Circuit 1 (Panoramic), Circuit 2 (Classic), and Circuit 3 (Royalty). Each circuit includes multiple route variations. Circuit 1 offers elevated viewpoints and terraces, including routes to Machu Picchu Mountain and the Sun Gate (Intipunku), some of which are high-season only. Circuit 2, often recommended for first-time visitors, provides classic panoramic views and access to key archaeological areas. Circuit 3 is designed for those seeking to explore specific sectors and includes routes to Huayna Picchu and the Great Cavern, with some high-season restrictions.
Altitude Peru recommends Circuit 2 for a balanced experience encompassing iconic views and significant Inca structures. This circuit's routes are generally less physically demanding than some of the mountain hikes offered in Circuits 1 and 3. The selection of a circuit is crucial as it dictates the specific zones and perspectives available to visitors within the citadel. Backtracking is not permitted on any route.
The site enforces strict daily visitor limits to ensure preservation and enhance the visitor experience. High season (June 1 โ October 15 and December 30โ31) allows up to 5,600 visitors per day, while low season (October 16 โ May 31) permits 4,500. These limits apply collectively across all circuits, and tickets, especially for popular routes, sell out well in advance.
