macOS 27 Redesigns Icons, Adds HDR Support, Fixes Design Issues

Apple has released macOS 27 Golden Gate, bringing significant visual and functional enhancements to its desktop operating system. Key features of this update include a comprehensive redesign of application icons, expanded support for High Dynamic Range (HDR) displays, and the resolution of previously reported design inconsistencies.

The update sees nearly all built-in application icons being redrawn. Icons for applications such as Siri, Preview, and Chess have undergone complete redesigns, while others like Finder and Photos have received adjustments. This effort aims to create a more unified visual language across the system, enhancing overall consistency. Furthermore, macOS 27 now supports HDR across various interface elements, including system icons and toolbars, offering improved visual fidelity for users with compatible displays.

In response to user feedback, Apple has addressed several design issues that were present in previous versions like macOS Tahoe. The macOS 27 Golden Gate update corrects inconsistent corner radius application on windows and reverts floating sidebars to a docked design. Toolbars also feature more distinct separators. A slider has been added to the "Liquid Glass" effect, allowing users to customize the transparency and color balance.

The visual presentation of menus has also been streamlined. While macOS Tahoe included an icon for nearly every menu item, leading to a cluttered interface, macOS 27 removes many of these redundant icons. Only essential visual indicators remain, improving menu readability and reducing visual noise.

Additionally, the iPhone mirroring feature has seen notable improvements. It now allows access to the Control Center from the mirrored interface, enables aspect ratio adjustments to match an iPad mini's dimensions, and supports playback of DRM-protected content from an iPhone on a Mac without the screen going black.
