The Madras High Court has mandated 29 internet and telecom service providers (ISPs) to block websites hosting pirated copies of the films "Awarapan 2" and "Batwara 1947". The court issued interim anti-piracy injunctions on August 14, 2026, effective until September 11.

The injunctions protect film producers Vishesh Pictures Pvt Ltd and Aamir Khan Productions Pvt Ltd, who filed separate cases over apprehended copyright infringement. Both films were released in theatres on the same day the legal action was initiated.

ISPs, including BSNL, Bharti Airtel, and Reliance Jio, are required to block access to infringing websites. Additionally, four cable operators, such as Action Lane and JAK Communications, have been restrained from unauthorized distribution of the films.

Justice K. Surender cited the potential for irreversible damage from unauthorized broadcasts as the basis for the orders. However, acknowledging the broad scope of the injunctions, the court stipulated that the producers must indemnify the respondents against any impact on their legitimate business interests. The court has scheduled further hearings for September 11, 2026.
