Magellan Partners reports on rising cyber threat landscape
Consultancy firm Magellan Partners outlines the increasing frequency of cyberattacks and examines upcoming EU regulations designed to enforce stricter security standards.
Magellan Partners has published an analysis of the evolving cybersecurity landscape, noting a significant rise in attacks across various economic sectors. Citing warnings from the French national cybersecurity agency, ANSSI, the report highlights that over 50% of companies have faced at least one cyberattack in the past year, underscoring the urgency of organizational preparedness.
The report examines the high-profile ransomware attack on the Centre Hospitalier Sud Francilien (CHSF), where attackers demanded a $10 million ransom. This incident highlights the vulnerability of essential services to groups like LockBit, which utilizes sophisticated automated tools that can evade standard endpoint security by masquerading malicious files.
Technological and regulatory shifts are also underway. Major tech companies are implementing 'passkeys' to move away from password-based authentication. Simultaneously, the European Commission is proposing the Cyber Resilience Act, which would impose mandatory security requirements on manufacturers of connected devices. Non-compliance could result in administrative fines reaching up to €15 million or 2.5% of annual global turnover.
Magellan Partners concludes that as cyber incidents become increasingly inevitable, the focus for organizations must shift toward rapid recovery strategies and resilient system architecture.
